Luke Stone, veteran Texas musician, had made a career out of bad decisions. He'd lost all passion for life, for music and for love. That was until he met young, naive Darlina Flowers. Then everything changed.

Synopsis

Darlina Flowers longs to fit in, to belong, and more than anything, to be accepted. On her own, in Abilene, Texas, 1970, at nineteen, she’s working days in a boiler factory and nights at a local nightclub as a fledgling go-go dancer and waitress. Growing up in a strict religious home, sheltered and protected from the world, she finds herself drawn to all the things that were taboo or forbidden by her mother and the religion. Although young and naïve, she has one belief that never changes. She believes in a true and lasting love and has no doubt, her knight in shining armor will show up and sweep her off her feet, just like the romance stories she’s avidly read.
Luke Stone, a wild and reckless Texas musician, has grown accustomed to getting or taking anything he wants. At thirty-five, and on his second failed marriage, with four kids and a country band that depends on him for their livelihood, he’s given up hope of having anything better. His life is on the road, full of one-night stands, booze, and drugs.
When their paths cross, passion ignites, and love explodes, creating an unbreakable bond.
This is an epic love story about a naïve sweet young girl from the New Mexico desert and a well seasoned blue-eyed Texas rebel musician who is drawn to her like a bee to nectar. It is based on a true story.
Together, they travel the many roads throughout Texas while Luke plays his music. Darlina embraces the lifestyle along with every complicated facet that is Luke Stone, finally feeling like she has a place she truly belongs. The short-lived journey is packed with excitement and sizzling passion.
Through the ups and downs, the good and bad, Darlina remains beside Luke, and it seems that nothing in heaven or on earth can separate them.
However, there is a cruel twist of fate waiting for the two lovers. Luke is arrested and unjustly convicted of armed bank robbery. With a seventy-five- year prison sentence, Luke loses all hope of ever returning to a normal life.
Darlina, left alone with a broken heart, searches for strength and determination to go on living. She dares to dream that despite the odds, they will be reunited again and live happily ever after.

Linda Broday I loved this book (whole series) and I think they would make excellent movies. Luke Stone is such a larger than life character and Darlina Flowers really didn't know what hit her but she itched to dive into life. I can totally relate to her.
